International audience; Pure microcrystalline barium molybdate BaMoO4 and barium tungstate BaWO4 materials were prepared by molten flux reaction using alkali metal nitrates as reaction media. The obtained crystals have rhombic shape and expose mostly (111) crystallographic planes. Their mean size depends on the flux temperature and the nature of the alkali metal cation. Monomeric molybdate and tungstate used as precursors yield target products already at 673 K whereas if polymerized ammonium oxosalts were used, then higher temperatures were necessary to obtain barium salts. Types de temps et risque d'inondation et d'érosion en Camargue : diagnostique et prévision au 21ème siècle (1993-2100)

High sea surges and waves are the two mains hydro-meteorological phenomenon associated with coastal flooding and erosion in Camargue. For the period 1993-2002, high monthly frequencies of strong surges are usually associated with high frequency of strong waves. These two phenomenons mainly occur during weather type showing a deep low pressure system over the Bay of Biscay associated with high pressure over Central Europe. The monthly frequency of such weather regime indicates the probability of occurrence of high surges and waves along Camargue's coast. During the 21st century, the frequency of this specific weather regime could stay stationary for the A1b climate change scenario.

The influence of decision-making in tree ring-based climate reconstructions.

Tree-ring chronologies underpin the majority of annually-resolved reconstructions of Common Era climate. However, they are derived using different datasets and techniques, the ramifications of which have hitherto been little explored. Here, we report the results of a double-blind experiment that yielded 15 Northern Hemisphere summer temperature reconstructions from a common network of regional tree-ring width datasets. Analysis of 7Be and 210Pb concentration and 7Be/210Pb activity ratio in ground level air in Palermo (Italy)

A series of measurements of particulate samples collected on paper filters in Palermo (Italy) during 1995–2005 has been performed to detect 210Pb air activity concentration and, along with previous similar data on 7Be, to evaluate their activity ratio. Average values for the daily activity concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb are found to be 4.7 and 0.6 mBq/m3 , respectively, 9.8 being the average activity ratio. Data confirm a seasonal behavior for both radionuclides. A correlation between 7Be and 210Pb air activity concentrations seems to exist, despite their different origins.
